Once upon a time... there lived the most perfect dress.
Dress was wished into existence by one woman and brought to life by another.
Dress escorted the Wisher down the aisle, was a fairy costume and lived in about 27 closets since. The Wisher loved the dress but was never quite sure what was next for Dress. The wedding and marriage were long done. It was too perfect, but also somehow not.
This past weekend, Wisher, Maker and Dress all were reunited and the cycle was complete for Dress as she went to live on in memory, and the vintage collection of Peach Berserk.
A smashing group of folks gathered at a local barn and engaged with the fabulous Kingi of Peach Berserk to workshop our way into some amazing creations with silkscreening.
Wonderful adventure to take me down a silkscreening path that I haven't done in almost 20 years! Back in my art school days, photo emulsion was my absolute favourite printmaking technique and I felt like I had only scratched the surface of what was possible.
But the products and setup seemed unattainable at home, at that time. Kingi opened my eyes that it's all doable. Two chairs, a screen, the right light with a pane of glass and a sink.. kinda makes this magic happen!
For my piece I took an AI portrait of myself, modified it and turned it black and white. Then I blew out the contrast to make it workable in making prints.
And it became this...
Then this
And these
The shirt has another alteration I'd like to try before making it's wardrobe debut but I was delighted in what I made, the experience and the time with friends.
